The premise of Ghost Whisperer is that in each episode Melinda is required to help someone "cross over." Ghost Whisperer is partly based on true experiences of Spirit Communicator Mary Ann Wintkowski.
In This Episode/plot Jim’s hospital is being haunted by the ghosts of kids from an abandoned polio ward in the early 1900’s. And the connection of Aidan, Melinda, the Shinies and the Shadows will come to a climax and Melinda and Jim will realize that they know almost nothing about Aiden’s powers.
Most of the focus of this Ghost Whisperer's season has been on Melinda's new son and the mysterious shadows that seem to control the evil surrounding Melinda's life. Carl The Watcher even warns Melinda that maybe she has put her son in harm's way - not because he has this gift but because she has forced this gift upon him. He might not be special as they all thought, but he could be just another normal five year old little boy. This sends Melinda into a tail spin, and we get to see her continue on down on this week's finale.
By the by, CBS has canceled Ghost Whisperer! It's really a shock for Ghost Whisperer fans!
