Actress Lindsay Lohan in court again

Lindsay Lohan is returning to familiar territory — a criminal court to face a judge who could send her back to jail or rehab for a failed drug test.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox will formally determine whether the "Mean Girls" star violated her probation with the drug test in September. If the actress admits the results are accurate — as she has already done publicly — then Fox could return her to jail or order her to remain in an inpatient rehab program.

Fox had been expecting Lohan to arrive at court directly from jail, where he ordered her to be held on Sept. 24 after a brief hearing. Within hours another judge had overturned his ruling and the starlet was released on bail.

The following week, a person close to the actress told The Associated Press, Lohan entered rehab for the fifth time. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

Her recent court troubles have put Lohan's career on hold, says AFP.

If Lohan is sentenced to jail, she will be subject to early release due to jail overcrowding. When a judge sentenced her to three months in jail in July, she served 14 days. She spent 84 minutes at the jail in 2007 before being released due to overcrowding.

Lohan pleaded no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08 percent and one count of reckless driving. She was sentenced to three years of probation, but that was later extended after the actress didn't complete the terms of her sentence in time.

Spain vs Portugal Match Preview

Sergio Ramos and most European football fans dreamt of having a Spain vs Portugal final in the 2008 European Championship. It wasn’t to be, but at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Spain and Portugal will finally meet in the Last 16 for what should be a classic.

Portugal celebrate a win.For neutrals who are thrilled to witness some of football’s biggest star names such as Iker Casillas, Xavi Hernandez, Carles Puyol, and Cristiano Ronaldo all taking part in Africa’s first ever World Cup tournament, June 29 will present a moment of joy and sadness at the same time.

The fact that Spain and Portugal clash up in the knockout stages of the 2010 FIFA World Cup means that one of these two teams will bitterly have to suffer the cruel fate of going home. Tragic!

Spain vs Portugal – Head to Head

The history between Spain and Portugal in terms of head to head is shocking. La Furia Roja crashed their Iberian Peninsula rivals 9-0 the first time both teams met. That was actually in a World Cup qualifier in 1934. The damage was far lesser in the return leg as the Portuguese only got defeated 2-1 at home.

Surely, lessons had been learnt and in the five other clashes that followed over the years, Portugal weren’t subject to defeat. The one and only time Portugal triumphed over Spain was back in the 2004 European Championship (which they hosted) where a 1-0 score line sealed a historic achievement.

Keeping a clean sheet and ultimately winning against the Spanish was something they had never done before. What gave more importance to this feat was the fact that, as they had been defeated by Greece on Match-day One of Euro 2004, a ‘routine’ loss to their murderers Spain would have thrown them out of the competition in the very first round. Just imagine how rude that would have been for the host nation! So, can Portugal hold on after terminating their winless record against Spain?

Spain’s Coach Vicente Del Bosque Not Concerned By Cristiano Ronaldo But BySpain's Coach Vicente del Bosque Portugal

The manager hasn’t managed to get the best out of his players in South Africa. Spain’s performances in the group stages of the 2010 FIFA World Cup were statistically poor, and visibly more boring than exciting. In a way or another though, the Spanish did just enough to top Group H above Chile, Switzerland, and Honduras respectively.

Their reward, as we say, is a battle against Portugal – who finished second in Group G following an uneventful goalless draw against Brazil. However, Coach Vicente del Bosque believes that toping Group H doesn’t automatically come out as a privilege.

“I take no contentment from the fact that we are up against Portugal instead of [Group G winners] Brazil. Both sides are great national teams.”

Dismissing fears over Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential threat, Vicente Del Bosque declared:

“No [Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t concern me], Portugal do. We saw how they controlled the game against Brazil, how they hit them on the counter-attack. Portugal will be a very tough side.”

Xabi Alonso Ready, Cristiano Ronaldo Dreaming

Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t face Real Madrid team mate and friend Kaka against Brazil since the star midfielder had to serve a controversial one-match ban. But the Portugal captain could be up against another Real Madrid team mate in the name of Xabi Alonso. The Spanish player suffered a blow against Chile but Spain’s team doctor Oscar Luis Celada has assured fans of Alonso’s fitness.

“The first x-ray confirmed that his right ankle had sprained as he was violently attacked. But, we are optimistic that Alonso will be fit for the second round match.”

Talking about fitness issues, Deco and Ruben Amorim are the two players that will remain on the sidelines for Portugal.

But Cristiano Ronaldo, who played 270 minutes of group stage football, has no injury concerns. Despite being the victim of multiple fouls, the 25-year-old winger is believed to be fit for Tuesday’s encounter against Spain at the Cape Town Stadium. For Cristiano Ronaldo, the time has come for Portuguese people to start dreaming.

“I’m confident that I can give more. We sorted things out [Group G qualification], and now we are dreaming. We will try to win against whoever comes our way. Now, we dream.”

A Selecção have overcome the demons that kept the gates of the ‘Group of Death’ shut. There are four more steps to climb for the world’s most expensive footballer (who was once the world’s best player) to be on top of the world with all his Portuguese team mates. First, can they reach the quarter-finals at the expense of 2008 European Champions Spain?

Paraguay vs Japan Match Preview

Two revelations will be taking on each other to gain their place within World' Best Eight

From Italy's ashes raised Tata Martino's squad, a team that relies heavily in the physical strengths of their players but that have also shown the importance of a solid strategy. Lucas Barrios will be playing its seventh match with the Albirroja; In the first three ones he managed to score and give Paraguay the three points, but in the tree matches played on African ground luck has been rather adverse for Borussia Dortmund's top scorer. Japan has become a stronger team in the last years, still owners of an unchallenged speed and technique, but now closer to European football, with fierce midfielders and powerful wingers. CSKA Moscow's midfielder Keisuke Honda is the offensive lighthouse of the strongest Asian team in this World Cup, will he be able to break Paraguay's sturdy defense?

There's a first time for everything

Loftus Versfeld will host one of the toughest matches in this round, for these two teams have both similar characteristics, having both received a huge morale boost thanks to a solid qualification in their groups. Paraguay has never advanced further than the Round of 16 in a World Championship, but as Chile and Uruguay, this year everything seems to be working as it should for South American squads. Gerardo Martino has found in Enrique Vera the playmaker his team was lacking, and the offensive trident Barrios-Haedo-Santa Cruz pose a threat to whatever rival the Guaranies have to face.

Julio Cesar Caceres (one of the strongest midfielders in this competition) is perfectly aware of the test that's waiting ahead for he and his team mates. "We're happy we've got to this round, but our objective has not yet been reached and the clash against Japan is the only important thing now. Our team is ready to make a wonderful game" he said to the press. When asked about their next rival, Caceres declared "They're past, we should remained focused and keep notice of every minor detail".

Both teams have never faced each other in a World Championship. 11 years ago, when Paraguay was hosting the Copa America they played their only official match against each other, which ended with a loose 4-0 victory for the Albirroja. 4 matches for the Kirin Cup and one friendly match were the other five encounters between both teams, with three additional victories for Paraguay, one for Japan and one tied game.

Considering Victor Caceres will be unable to perform (having been cautioned two times in the first three games), the former Argentinean Nelson Ortigoza might be given an opportunity within the starting squad. Carlos Bonet's return to the fields will probably sideline Denis Caniza, while Jonathan Santana and Antolin Alcaraz are fully recovered from their injuries: It is unknown whether Santana will make it from the first minute on the fields after certain polemic declarations regarding his Argentinean roots, while Julio Caceres made an excellent work taking over Alcaraz's place last week.

Asian greed

Three weeks ago, Japan's coach Takeshi Okada declared he won't be happy if his team returns home without playing at least five games. His words are slowly becoming true, as the Japanese have made it over Denmark and Cameroon to the round of 16, having only lost points against Netherlands. Japan's versatile strategy, ready to attack and adopt a defensive formation only seconds later will have a tough time against Paraguay's highly tactical game.

Honda has been the offensive lighthouse of the Samurais, but the team has been lacking Yoshito Okubo's presence in the last meters. He might experience stage fright in South Africa, as he did with Mallorca back in 2006 and Wolfsburgo the last year. In 46 games he could only score five times, and maybe it'd be wise if Okada gave another partner to join Shinji Okazaki in the last meters. Aged 24, this young striker has scored 15 goals in only one year with Japan, a record in the Asiatic squad.

Japan's midfielder Yuki Abe declared Paraguay will be a tough rival "Their defense is completely organized. They've physical strength and an excellent level of football". Will Japan's millennial wisdom be enough to stand against the ferocity of the South Americans?
