Paul Le Guen’s men haven’t responded to their people’s need following their quarter-final exit at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. A relatively boring display against Georgia and Slovakia during the past few days resulted in nothing more than draws.
Against Portugal on June 1, the Cameroonians certainly improved in terms of performance. However, the dismissal of their captain Samuel Eto’o contributed in letting them lose 3-1 to Carlos Queiroz’ men in the end. Time is running out for the Indomitable Lions to reach the standards they had set for themselves well before the start of the 2010 World Cup.
Serbia, meanwhile, haven’t got better results either. They got shocked by New Zealand who defeated 1-0 on May 29 and followed this upset with only a goalless draw against Poland. Either way, Coach Radomir Antic explained that scoring goals or winning friendly matches wasn’t his side’s priority. His concern, instead, is about his players’ fitness.
Fortunately enough for Radomir Antic, his squad is injury free. The same cautious approach against Cameroon on Saturday may help his men be fully fit for their 2010 World Cup opening game against Ghana on June 13. In the same way, such an approach may benefit the Indomitable Lions who seem desperate to lift their spirits.
