Greece vs Nigeria Match Preview

Match-day One’s two losers in Group B, Greece and Nigeria, will lock horns in a must-win game for both sides on Thursday, June 17. The venue is the Free Stat Stadium in Bloemfontein, and kick-off time is at 15:00 GMT.
Nigeria's Yakubu Aiyegbeni on the ground with Argentina's Gabriel Heinze.Nigeria’s Super Eagles To Be Crashed Down To The Ground?

"Nobody expected us to beat Argentina. Nothing's changed. We just have to prepare ourselves right and go and play with the same heart and desire."

That is what Nigeria’s Etuhu said following is side’s opening match defeat to Diego Maradona’s Argentina. So the boys from ‘Naija’, as their country is nicknamed, are set to bounce back on Match-day Two with a victory over Greece.

Nigeria could be the first African country to bow out from the 2010 FIFA World Cup competition in the first round, and this is a horrible fate the country and its national football team won’t be able to tolerate. In other words, such a reality will be a real nightmare.

Thanks to Vincent Enyeama’s heroics against the Albicelestes, the Nigerians have proven that there two things they can do almost perfectly: to defend and to deal quite well with the opposition’s rapid football characterized by accurate passes. Actually, the Super Eagles didn’t put up a bad show against Argentina but their front men will have to come under interrogation.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Uche were far from being impressive, the latter missing two glorious chances to score a goal for Nigeria. Coach Lars Lagerback may consider starting Peter Odemwingie alongside Obafemi Martins with the aim of genuinely seeking to get at least a goal and bag a victory in the end.

Now if the Super Eagles are plotting to ravage Greece’s Pirate Ship, the Greeks are also looking to hoist the sails and float forward. Can they cut the wings of the Nigerians? Greece's Sergio Ramos in action against South Korea.

The answer is yet to be known, but any Greek fan would want to believe that the country’s soccer team has what it takes to overturn the 2-0 defeat they suffered against South Korea. Key player Georgio Samaras shared his ideas ahead of Greece’s game against Nigeria. Speaking exclusively to FIFA.com, the attacker declared:

“We have to get back to what makes us a good team when we face Nigeria. When a player commits a mistake, the player closest to him has to react immediately and work twice as hard to solve the issue. If we lose, our World Cup dream will be dead. This is the same condition for Nigeria.”

Georgios Samaras also told Goal.com:

“We are hoping for the best to happen. Two more games remain, two difficult games against tough teams. But, we will do our best.”

The group’s other game between Argentina and the Korea Republic is set to kick off earlier on Thursday, at 11:30 GMT. By the time Greece and Nigeria finish playing, Group B might be completely decided.
